About Me...
I graduated in 1998 from Moravian College with a B.A. in Elementary Education and Spanish. I spent just one year teaching at a 2nd grade class in Reading, Pa before leaving for Honduras, Central America to volunteer as a teacher in an orphanage (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos/Our Little Brothers and Sisters). 2 1/2 years later I returned to the United States and began teaching in the Philadelphia Public School system as a bilingual teacher. After just one year I returned to the regular education classroom because I missed having my "own" students. I stayed with the public school for a few more years before starting the first 7th grade class at KIPP Philadelphia Charter School. There I wrote the 7th grade ELA curriculum and learned a considerable amount about what it takes to be an effective teacher. I stayed at KIPP for three years. I said "goodbye" to KIPP at the end of my third year in order to stay home for a year and raise my then newborn baby girl. In 2009 I took a job at Green Woods Charter School working as the Literacy Coach. My job for the next six years was to introduce effective literacy programs, work with small groups, model high quality teaching practices, aide teachers in lesson planning, and oversee the many literacy assessments. In 2015 I was ready to leave my little office and return to a classroom of students that I could call my "own".
A big part of what makes me who I am is my family. My daughter is entering 4th grade at Green Woods Charter School and my son is 6 years old and starting 1st grade this year. When I am not in school, I am most certainly with them. We can often be found digging for bugs, walking or biking in the Wissahickon, reading books together, and generally enjoying each other's company.
